Cell-mediated immunity in Sjögren's syndrome.

چکیده
The triad of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), salivary gland involvement (increase in size or xerostomia), and rheumatoid arthritis was described by Sjogren (1933) as a rare syndrome. Any two of the triad were sufficient to make the diagnosis. Subsequently the syndrome has been extended to include disseminated lupus erythematosus (Morgan, 1954; Ramage and Kinnear, 1956; Bain, 1960), systemic sclerosis (Schaposnik, Bergna, and Conti, 1955), polyarteritis nodosa (Shearn, 1960), and polymyositis (Shearn, 1960), instead of rheumatoid arthritis. More recently it has been described in liver diseases not necessarily associated with an arthropathy (Golding, Bown, Mason, and Taylor, 1970). An immune basis has been suggested for this syndrome, and there is good evidence of altered circulating autoantibodies (Bloch, Bunim, Wohl, and Zvaifler, 1960). Sjogren showed histological evidence of small round cell infiltration in the parotid and sublingual glands, but little work has so far been carried out on specific cell-mediated immunity. In this study the leucocyte migration test has been used to investigate cell-mediated immunity to parotid and liver antigens in patients with Sj6gren's syndrome, with rheumatoid arthritis, and with autoimmune liver disease (chronic active hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis). In selected patients buccal salivary gland histology has been studied.

EVA LUATION OF THE ROLE OF CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNITY IN DERMATOPHYTOSIS
For demonstration of cell-mediated immunity and its role in the process of dermatophytosis, 98 patients with acute dermatophytosis (group I) and 131 chronic dermatophytosis patients (group 2) were chosen. In ail patients, lymphocyte transfonnation and skin test were used. 96 members of group I (98%) had positive delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) responses to trichophytin, whereas only 43 ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cell Mediated Immunity following Rubella Vaccination Using Lymphocyte Proliferation
Background and Aims: Rubella is predominantly a childhood disease that is endemic throughout the world and when rubella outbreaks occur, they are accompanied by birth defects following congenital rubella syndrome. Immunity to rubella virus as a teratogenic agent has an important role for prevention of these serious congenital defects. Lymphocyte proliferation assay is a way for investigation of...
متن کاملAspects of innate immunity in Sjögren's syndrome
Previously, a dominant role of the adaptive immune system in the pathogenesis of Sjögren's syndrome was suspected. Recent advances, however, have revealed a major role of the type I IFN pathway, documented by an increased circulating type I IFN activity and an IFN 'signature' in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and minor salivary gland biopsies from the patients. Polymorphisms in the genes IR...
متن کاملRecurrent Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: Could It Be Related to Cell-Mediated Immunity Defect in Response to Candida Antigen?
Objective Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) is a common cause of morbidity affecting millions of women worldwide. Patients with RVVC are thought to have an underlying immunologic defect. This study has been established to evaluate cell mediated immunity defect in response to candida antigen in RVVC cases. MaterialsAndMethods Our cross sectional study was performed in 3 groups of RVVC pa...
متن کاملO22: Principles of Treatment in Neuro-Inflammation Disorders
Treating Central Nervous System (CNS) neuro-inflammational disorders is of great importance. A key aspect of this treatment includes regulation of Cell-Mediated and humoral immune systems. Previous treatment mostly consisted of systemic immunosuppressive drugs. In addition to having adverse side effects, these drugs were also inefficient, such as methotrexate- Cyclophosphamide-Azathioprine. Rec...
